What we aim for
Tellersonne should work well for everyone - with a screen reader, with large text, with one hand, with a keyboard, without a mouse and without hearing the timer. We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, conformance level AA, and follow the European standard EN 301 549 in its current version, including chapter 11 on software and apps.
Which services this statement covers
This statement covers the Tellersonne app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, the public recipe pages on the web at https://tellersonne.app/ and the admin panel our team uses to maintain the content.
Legal framework
Since 28 June 2025 the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstaerkungsgesetz, BFSG) and its ordinance (BFSGV) apply to digital services in electronic commerce. To the extent that we qualify as a micro-enterprise - fewer than ten employees and no more than two million euros in annual turnover or annual balance sheet total - our services are exempt from the requirements of the act under Section 3 (3) BFSG, and we then publish this statement voluntarily. That changes nothing about our commitment: we follow WCAG 2.2 AA whether or not we are obliged to, and we review our status every year.
State of accessibility
Based on our own assessment, the app, the recipe pages and the admin panel largely meet level AA. "Largely" means that the limitations listed below are known to us and not yet fixed. An assessment by an independent provider is still outstanding; we will update this statement as soon as it is available.
What is already in place
- Text scales up to 200 per cent without cutting text off or forcing horizontal scrolling; from 150 per cent grids collapse into a single column. - Dark mode and verified colour contrasts (text at least 4.5:1, large text and controls at least 3:1). - Labels, roles and states for VoiceOver and TalkBack on every control; dialogs and sheets are modal and return focus afterwards. - Announcements when things change: notices, finished timers, step changes, household sync, contributions under review. - Alternative text for every recipe and step image is mandatory before publishing; for community cooked photos you can add an image description while uploading. - Important information is never conveyed by colour alone: allergens, "Under review", "Reported", Plus, offline and sync states are always spelled out in words as well. - Touch targets of at least 44 by 44 points; every swipe gesture has a button alternative. - "Reduce motion" turns off animations and pulsing hints; the screen stays on in cooking mode and that can be switched off. - Timers announce themselves audibly, visibly and as vibration; cooking mode reads the current step aloud and has large buttons. - Our editorial team can add subtitles per language (German and English) for the main video and for every step clip; where they exist they can be turned on and off. - Tablet layouts in portrait and landscape, and keyboard operation on iPad. - The recipe pages on the web have a skip link, a meaningful heading structure and work without JavaScript. - The notice form for illegal content and the list of licences on the web also work without JavaScript and without an account; errors are described right at the field. - The legal texts are available in German and English, with real headings and lists instead of walls of text; the legal texts in the app use the same content as the web. - Voice control in cooking mode is an extra: every spoken command has a button equivalent, and without microphone permission cooking mode works exactly as before.
Known limitations
- Subtitles for the main video and for the short step clips exist only where our editorial team has uploaded a caption file; there is no audio description. Every step is written out in full next to them. - Cooked photos without their own image description are announced only with the name and the caption. - Voice control in cooking mode is available only in the full app build; button operation is always available. - On tablets the ingredient column is not sticky but scrolls along with the page, which avoids nested scroll regions for screen readers. - In the admin panel some dialogs and error states are not yet part of the automated test run. - The labels in the tab bar on phones grow only up to a certain size, as they do in the operating system; the full name is still read out. - An assessment by external specialists and tests with people with disabilities are still outstanding.
How we test
Before every release, automated checks with axe-core run over the main areas of the app, the recipe pages and the admin panel - in light and dark mode, at phone, tablet and desktop widths and with 200 per cent text size. Findings rated "serious" or "critical" make the release fail. We test the colour contrasts of our building blocks automatically, and the most important components additionally for roles, names, states and target size. Before larger releases we work through a fixed test script with VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android on real devices. This statement is based on that self-assessment.
Reporting a barrier

Please describe briefly where the problem occurs and which device and assistive technology you use. We confirm your message within seven days and give you a substantive answer within 14 days. If a fix takes longer, we tell you what we are working on and when you can expect it.
Enforcement procedure
If you are not satisfied with our answer, or receive no answer at all, you can turn to the market surveillance authority. The competent body is the market surveillance authority of the federal states for the accessibility of products and services (Marktueberwachungsstelle der Laender fuer die Barrierefreiheit von Produkten und Dienstleistungen, MLBF), based in Magdeburg. It examines whether a service meets the requirements of the BFSG and can order measures. Contact details and the form for applications are published on the MLBF website. Independently of this, you remain free to go to court.
Status of this statement
This statement was drawn up on 18 September 2026 and applies in version 2.2. We update it when the app changes materially, when we fix a limitation and in any case after the external assessment. The version in force is available at https://tellersonne.app/en/accessibility.
